“Kadence?” I push open the bedroom door and wait for my eyes to adjust to the dim light to the room. She doesn’t answer, but I don’t know if she’s feigning sleep or if she’s out for the night.

I made it back to the clubhouse over an hour ago, but I held off from seeing her. Brooks reported that both girls kept a low profile, coming out of the room to eat at lunch and again for dinner. While Kadence doesn’t seem impressed with being here, she seems to have accepted why she has to be. Holly only settled down when I told her they could have a bag brought over from their apartment. I sent Beau over to do that task, making sure he got what they had put down.

I close the door and make my way to the bathroom. The door is ajar and a sliver of light shines through. I don’t think I’ve ever met a woman afraid of the dark, but it’s something that intrigues me about her.

After using the bathroom, I keep the light on and position the door how she had it, before moving to my side of the bed and dropping my phone and keys onto the bedside table. She doesn’t stir at all, so I kick off my boots and drop my jeans. I don’t know what she’s gonna say in the morning when she wakes up, but right now I don’t give a fuck. After sleeping with her last night, the need to feel her in my arms again is too strong to ignore.

Lifting the sheet, I slide in beside her. She turns, shifting the sheet off her body and exposing her black lace panties. Jesus, she’s wearing one of my tees.

This woman is a mystery. One minute she’s spitting her venom, then the next, she’s sleeping in my bed wearing my club tee, when I know she has pajamas in her bag.

“Nix,” she sighs before I can touch her, and my body stills. Is she dreaming of me?

I know I shouldn’t pull her to me. Know my hands shouldn’t have the privilege of holding her. But does that stop me? No. The desperation to have her under my fingers is too much.

“Mmmh,” she moans, still lost in some kind of dream. My fist clenches at my side, as my body fights my desire to take her.

To claim her.

Jesus Christ. I’ve lived this fucked-up existence my whole life, yet I lay here with goodness. Something I don’t deserve. It’s like a punishment having her so close when I know I can never have her the way my body craves her.

I know I should get dressed and walk out that door, but my body wouldn’t obey the command, even if I asked it to. I can’t walk away. I need more from her.

I’ll take anything she gives me.

Even if she doesn’t realize she’s giving it.

Rolling over, I pull her into me, and breathe her in. She smells of vanilla and everything I’ve ever wanted and could never have.
